The pink painted flag flying against a bright blue sky above Newcastle Castle

“For I am here, I am naked, I stand in front of you, and I am dancing! Do you have anything to say?”

In 2024 the painting For I am here… was raised as a flag above Newcastle Castle, in collaboration with BALTIC’s Open Submission. A medieval fortress, built to defend territory, carried a woman’s body dancing in pink.

The work reverses the logic of the flag: it claims no nation or land, only presence. It stands as a visible resistance to the norms placed on women, and as space for those who go unnoticed or silenced.
